The ASEAN meeting of energy ministers plus China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (AMEM+3) opened in Myanmar's second largest city, Mandalay, on July 29.

The AMEM+3 will highlight cooperation on improving the oil reserve system in the region to cope with increasing demand for oil in the Asian region and rising prices in future.

A working meeting of the AMEM will also take place with the three East Asian countries to work out their respective plans to build up oil reserves.

The meeting, which came after the ASEAN+3 Senior Officials Meeting on Energy on July 28, will be followed by the 3rd East Asia Summit Energy Ministers' Meeting./.
