More than 100 delegates and heath experts of Vietnam , the US and 11Asian countries are gathering in Ho Chi Minh City to shareexperience in HIV prevention and treatment for injecting drug users.
Jointlyorganised by the US Global AIDS Programme Coordination Office andVietnamese concerned agencies, the conference is designed to updateexperience and lessons as well as effects of the provision of HIVprevention and treatment services for injecting drug users in theregion.
It also focuses on sharing information onexpanding services for injecting drug users in Southeast and South Asiaand the way each country and the international community respond tothe issue as well as appropriate policies.
During the course ofthe four-day conference, the delegates are scheduled to discuss a rangeof topics relating to challenges in HIV prevention among injecting drugusers, the current situation of drug use and HIV infection in thisgroup, policies on the implementation and expansion of HIV preventionactivities, and expansion of treatment by using replacement medicines.
The US President Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)has provided more than 400 million USD and technical assistance forVietnam to carry out its national HIV/AIDS prevention and controlproject./.
