Moscow (VNA) – An association of Vietnamese war veterans living in Sverdlovsk province, Russia, was established at a congress held at the Vietnamese Consulate General in Ekaterinburg city on March 10.
Addressing the congress, Vietnamese consul general in Ekaterinburg Ngo Phuong Nghi stressed that the establishment of the association marked an important development of the local Vietnamese community, as it is the first socio-political organisation set up in the Russian locality with the support of the consulate general.
The association gathers former members of Vietnam’s armed forces, those who used to work as youth volunteers and conscripted labourers during the liberation war in Vietnam, and former defence workers along with their family members.
The consul general asked the association to serve as the nucleus of solidarity in the Vietnamese community in Sverdlovsk and work to establish links with Russian friends to find and pay tribute to former Russian experts who once helped Vietnam in the national liberation war.
The congress elected an executive committee with 11 members with Truong Binh Minh as Chairman of the association in the 2019-2022 tenure.-VNA
