The Vietnam national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines launched the Beijing-Ho Chi Minh City direct route in Beijing on December 16.

Addressing the function, Director of Vietnam Airlines’ southern regional office Nguyen Thi Minh Yen said this is the only direct route linking Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest economic and trade hub.

As planned, Vietnam Airlines will offer three flights a week by Airbus 321 aircraft and will increase to four flights per week in mid-2011.

The launching of the service is expected to shorten flight duration from China to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, meeting passengers’ demand, Yen said.

China is one of Vietnam Airlines’ major markets in the region. In 2010, the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam via Beijing international airport is expected to reach 36,000./.
