Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), in collaboration with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT), recently held a voluntary blood donation event with the spirit of "One drop of blood given - One life saved", spreading the humanitarian movement, on the occasion of the VBSP’s 21st founding anniversary (October 4).

To meet the increasing demand for blood for medical purposes, the VBSP launched the 2023 voluntary blood donation event for all of its staff, including trade union members and young people at the main headquarters and branches. The aim was to contribute to addressing the shortage of blood and bringing life to hundreds of patients in need of blood, helping them overcome difficulties and return to a healthy, happy life.

The event also raised the awareness of its staff about humanitarian blood donation, promoting and upholding the compassionate spirit and noble tradition of the Vietnamese people.

Prior to the event, the VBSP called on all trade union members and young people to join it. During the blood donation session on October 2 morning, as many as 153 units were collected, ensuring safety with high results.

Speaking at the event, VBSP General Director Duong Quyet Thang said 30 years ago, he himself participated in voluntary blood donation, saving critically ill patients who were in difficult circumstances. With its humanitarian significance, blood donation is always a matter of concern for the VBSP, seen as a responsibility for the community. The participation of trade union members and youths at the event will contribute to building a positive image of the VBSP staff.

With the growing demand for blood for medical purpose in both quantity and quality, he suggested that the VBSP’s trade union units and youth union further spread the voluntary blood donation movement, including effectively conducting awareness communication activities, holding safe and efficient voluntary blood donation drives, and ensuring the proper support for donors to encourage their involvement in saving lives.

He also proposed the NIHBT continue to accompany the VBSP in the effort, with enthusiastic response from many officers and workers of the lender. From the compassion of each person, a collective and compassionate spirit will be built within the VBSP, dedicating to those in need across the country, in line with the motto "Understanding the people's hearts - Wholehearted service".

The activity will also contribute to affirming that the staff of the VBSP are not only competent in their professional tasks but also actively join social movements, demonstrating a sense of responsibility for the community, he said.

Talking about preparations for the activity, Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the grassroots trade union at the VBSP’s main office, said the event received enthusiastic response from a large number of trade union members and young people. Upon the launch of the event launch, 200 officers and workers registered to donate blood. During the blood donation session, many more others also registered. It was first time that the VBSP had organised such a large-scale event. Prior to this, they actively engaged in other blood donation events. She expressed her hope that in the near future, a similar event will continue to create a ripple effect and build an image of VBSP staff as humane and compassionate ones in the community.

Speaking at his first voluntary blood donation session, Chu Phu Hung said he is excited to join the event. He registered immediately after being informed of it. He found it a meaningful and humane activity, and felt very happy. Hung promised to certainly encourage other workers to join with it in the future,

Having become accustomed to the effort, Dang Thanh Huyen promptly registered when the event was launched.

"I find the humanitarian blood donation very meaningful. Previous blood donation sessions that I joined were all organised by the unit. For those with busy schedules, having the opportunity to donate blood at the workplace is very convenient and easy for us to take this meaningful action with our colleagues. This has created a humane and positive spirit right at the workplace”, she said.
