HCM City (VNA) – The Alliance of Ho Chi MinhCity Associations of Literature and Arts, the municipal Writers’ Association,and the Culture-Art Publishing House jointly held a ceremony to introduce abook collection on Vietnamese seas and islands.

The “Sea and Island – 2019” has three poetry collections byPhung Hieu, Pham Phuong Lan, and Phan Trung Thanh; a short story by Huynh ManChi; and a longer piece of prose by Vo Thu Huong.

At the introduction ceremony, President of the Alliance ofHCM City Associations of Literature and Art Tran Long An said that in 2018, thealliance held an 11-day farm trip for local writers and artists to Ly Sonisland in Quang Ngai province and Phu Quy island in Binh Thuan province.

The trip aimed to increase the composition and popularizationof literature and art works on Vietnam’s border, sea, and island areas.

During the trip, participants had exchanges with borderguards and locals in the islands, during which they learnt about their strongspirit to protect the national seas and islands amongst the border guards andislanders.

Following the trip, a number of art works in differentstyles have been introduced to the public. In the area of literature, the alliancehas chosen five books to form the “Sea and Island – 2019” collection, said An.

According to President of the HCM City Writers’ AssociationTran Van Tuan, the introduction of the collection is part of the activitieswithin the framework of the city’s Vietnam Poetry Day 2019, which will takeplace on February 19, or the 15th day of the first lunar month.

This year, the event is themed “heading to the nation’sborders”. It anticipates the participation of 25 poetry clubs and groups,aiming to honour the values of poetry; foster connections among poets andpoetry lovers; introduce outstanding works that feature patriotism, nationalpride, citizen responsibilities in safeguarding borders, and that highlight thedynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City. –VNA

Cuba–Vietnam friendship through Italian eyes
