Book street festival, flower street open in HCM City

The book street festival and the Nguyen Hue flower street celebrating the 2019 traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays opened in Ho Chi Minh City on February 2.

HCMCity (VNA) – The book street festival and the Nguyen Hue flowerstreet celebrating the 2019 traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays opened inHo Chi Minh City on February 2. 

Theweek-long book street festival features nearly 60,000 titles of various genres.

It has been held in HCM City for nine consecutive years, serving as a culturalattraction on the start of the new lunar year for local people and visitors,said Duong Anh Duc, Director of the municipal Department of Information andCommunications.

Ahighlight of the festival is a showcase area, with a number of exhibitions on the320th founding anniversary of HCM city, spring newspaper festival, and achievementsin the city’s external relations in the previous year, among others.

Inaddition, folk games and book releases will be arranged within the framework ofthe festival.

Meanwhile,up to 130,000 flower pots and baskets grown in HCM City and Sa Dec flower villageof Dong Thap province are exhibited along the Nguyen Hue street.

Speakingat the opening ceremony of the flower street, Vice Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee Le Thanh Liem said the festival turns to the 15th year.

Korean reporter remembers days before April 30,1975 victory

Ahn Byung Chan, a former reporter for the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Hankook Ilbo newspaper was the last Korean journalist to leave Sai Gon (now Ho Chi Minh City) on the early morning of April 30, 1975 on the flight that he believed the last one from the US Embassy's building rooftop on April 30.
