Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Border Guard High Command held an exchange programme in Hanoi on May 7 to increase border friendship and solidarity with China, Laos and Cambodia.

The event was attended by President Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Defence Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of Public Security To Lam, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army Luong Cuong as well as Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong, Lao Ambassador Thongsavanh Phomvihane, and Cambodian Ambassador Hun Phany.

It offers a golden opportunity for border guards from the four countries to shared experiences and initiatives in border defence, management, and construction.

Participants highlighted border cooperation as one of the significant activities to build border lines of peace, friendship, stability and development, thus creating trust between border guard management forces.

According to Major General Hoang Xuan Chien, Commander of the Border Guards Command, the Vietnamese border guards have closely and effectively coordinated with Chinese, Lao and Cambodian partners to strengthen solidarity and collaboration in exchanging professional and technical experience, as well as supporting people in the shared border areas.

The four countries’ border guards have also enhanced bilateral patrolling activities and set up twining relationship between border posts to cement friendship, peace and harmony, he said, citing the Vietnamese border guards have been twinned with 123 border stations of these countries.

He noted that the Vietnamese border guards have consulted the Government to put forth a number of mechanisms and policies on immigration management, paving the way for import-export activities at border gates and seaports.

Special art performances were staged during the exchange programme to praise friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and the neighbouring countries.

Short videos featuring the close-knit ties between Vietnam, China, Laos and Cambodia in border security cooperation such as crime and terrorism prevention and border cultural exchanges were also screened at the event.-VNA
