Vietnam’s central province of Thanh Hoa and the Lao province Houaphanhhave concluded a project to upgrade and increase the number of bordermarkers along their shared borderline, as heard a review conference heldon July 23.
The accomplishment represented theconstruction of 88 border markers and the erection of nine poles markingthe positions for future markers, fulfilling the set plan.
Duringthe project’s implementation, the Thanh Hoa border marker plantingsteering board cooperated with relevant departments and branches toeducate and popularise regulations on sovereignty protection and borderdemarcation among officials and village patriarchs in 16 bordercommunes.
The steering board also mobilisedresidents in two provinces to join in campaigns to promote cross-borderfriendship and cooperation as well as to maintain security along theborder.
The section of shared borderline between Thanh Hoa and Houaphanh is 192 kilometres long.
Vietnamand Laos share a 2,000-kilometre border running north to south – thelongest land border Vietnam shares with a neighbouring country.-VNA
