Quang Tri (VNA) – The central province of Quang Tri is intensifying efforts to eliminate inadequate housing for poor and near-poor households by leveraging government funds and community contributions.
As of January 2025, 8,824 households in the province require housing assistance, with 4,419 needing new homes and 4,405 others needing house repairs.
Support levels for house building include 100 million VND (3,940 USD) per home for families of revolution contributors, 70 million VND for poor and near-poor households in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, and 60 million VND for the ones in other areas. Meanwhile, repairs are funded with 30 million VND per home.
The initiative’s total cost of nearly 420 billion VND is sourced from the central and local budgets as well as social contributions.
Over the past years, Quang Tri has received substantial financial support from various sources to aid the eradication of substandard housing. Between 2022 and 2026, the province's plan on mobilising resources for building new houses for the poor (Plan 197) aims to raise over 217 billion VND from the national target programmes, the local budget, and social sources to construct 3,152 houses. It has already secured 120 billion VND for building 1,860 new houses for the target group.
Additionally, the “Gratitude Fund” supported the construction of 677 houses and repair of 172 others for revolution contributors during 2021 - 2024, with the total cost of over 58 billion VND.
Quang Tri is taking various measures to boost housing support. In particular, it is prioritising the completion of new housing for the poor under Plan 197 before the second quarter of 2025. It also aims to finish housing support for families of revolution contributors by September 2 this year.
Provincial leaders have emphasised the need for efficient, inclusive efforts to address housing needs, encouraging innovative approaches and expanded resource mobilisation in order to meet the ultimate goal of improving living conditions for vulnerable communities./.
