Vinh Long (VNA) – A delegation of the Military Zone 3 Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces led by its Commander Lieutenant General Ui Hieng on January 16 paid a pre-Tet (Lunar New Year) visit to the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long.

Welcoming the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Liet informed the guests about the province’s socio-economic situation in 2024.

He said the province is home to approximately 22,000 Khmer people, accounting for 2.2% of the population, and has 13 Theravada Buddhist temples that contribute to preserving the traditional culture of the community.

The province has consistently implemented the Party and State's ethnic policies, supporting the Khmer people in improving their material and spiritual lives. Additionally, local authorities have actively coordinated to organise rituals and recreational activities during traditional festivals, in line with Khmer cultural identity.

The province's leaders have also visited and presented gifts to disadvantaged families, supported the construction of charitable houses, and helped provide health insurance cards for those in need.

Congratulating the outstanding socio-economic results achieved by Vinh Long, Ui Hieng extended his New Year wishes to the Party organisation, administration, and people of the province.

He noted that the Military Zone 3 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces has successfully coordinated with Vietnam's border provinces to exchange information and promptly address arising issues. This includes preventing violations such as smuggling, human trafficking, and drug trafficking, thereby contributing to the stability of political security along the border and facilitating trade and exchange for local residents.

Furthermore, the Cambodian military collaborated with Vietnamese authorities in the search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese fallen volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives during the war.

He said Cambodia acknowledges the significant support from the Party, State, and people of Vietnam in its struggle for national liberation and development./.
