A workshop disseminating Buddhist leaders’ initiative on HIV prevention for Buddhist clergymen and staff of the Fatherland Front chapters in southern provinces responsible for religious affairs, opened in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on Jan. 4.
During the five-day workshop, participants will be provided with the latest information on HIV/AIDS epidemic, the impacts of the disease on economics and the society, how to cope with HIV/AIDS consequences and how to establish community-based HIV/AIDS prevention plans.
They also discussed and proposed measures to implement the Buddhist leaders’ initiative on HIV/AIDS prevention effectively in order to uphold the role of the Vietnam Buddhist Shanga in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The initiative, launched in 2002, is part of Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention programme that is funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund./.
