Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC) on May 14 announced the list of 20 political parties registering to contest in the general election slated for July 29.

NEC spokesperson Dim Sovannarom said on May 14 that four of the political parties have been officially recognised, comprising the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), the Cambodian Youth Party, the Cambodian Nationality Party, and the Khmer National United party.

Sovannarom said the NEC will continue to assess dossiers of the other 16 political parties.

The register for the general election lasts for 15 days, beginning on April 14. The NEC takes seven days to assess dossiers of political parties.

Cambodia is scheduled to hold the general election for the 125-seat parliament on July 29. The fifth National Assembly consists of 123 seats, of which 68 are claimed by the CPP.
