Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia and France have agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields.
The agreement was made during the meeting between Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Bertrand Lortholary, Director for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, in Phnom Penh on February 6.
While noting the long-standing relations of friendship between Cambodia and France, the Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the recent working visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen to Paris on December 13 last year.
He expressed his pleasure with the recent visit of Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade.
These two events have further strengthened political and economic cooperation between the two countries, according to a press release issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Prak Sokhonn briefed the Director on the success of Cambodia’s Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) Chairmanship in 2022 and its efforts to help Myanmar in implementing the Five-point Consensus in order to bring this country back to normalcy through dialogues.
For his part, Lortholary appreciated Cambodia for the great achievements of its economic and social development, compared to his first visit to the Kingdom as a student in 1993. He congratulated Cambodia for its Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022, especially in the context of the rise of challenges in the region and around the world, particularly in Myanmar that Cambodia has made many sustained efforts throughout 2022 to help implement the five points of consensus approved by the heads of Government of ASEAN states to defuse the tensions.
Cambodia and France will hold the second meeting session of bilateral political consultations between the two foreign ministries next year in Paris, according to Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation./.
