Cambodia has revoked diplomatic passports of 56 former members of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), senior government officials said on November 30.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia has revoked diplomatic passports of 56former members of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), senior governmentofficials said on November 30.

The decision was made several weeks after the Supreme Court dissolved theparty.

Huy Vannak, undersecretary of state at the Interior Ministry said “Legally,they are just ordinary citizens, they are no longer special officials whoreceive diplomatic passports”.

The move comes after a warning from Prime Minister Hun Sen that former membersof the CNRP who have fled to Thailand may be sent back to Cambodia.

The CNRP was dispersed on November 16 after being accused of plotting to topplethe government.


The Supreme Courtruling ordered a five-year political ban for 118 members, including theirleader Kem Sokha. Kem Sokha was arrested in September on charges of treason.-VNA
