According to the CCAA’s report, the air transport sector reaped remarkable results, with t he country’s two biggest international airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap welcoming over 5.7 million passengers in 2014, a 12.4 percent increase over the previous year. The figure is expected to hit 4 million by 2020.
Cambodia hopes to welcome more air travellers to the country after the ASEAN Economic Community is established by the end of 2015.
CCAA Chief Mao Havannal revealed that Cambodia hosted a meeting with Lao and Vietnamese representatives in Phnom Penh on July 20 to discuss measures to enhance the efficiency of the New Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (New CNS/ATM) project.
The New CNS/ATM project, worth 500 million JPY (6 million USD) funded by the Japanese Government for the three countries from 2010-2015, aims to reduce the time spent flying, thus cutting down aviation transport expenses.-VNA
