Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodian National Assembly (NA)President Samdech Heng Samrin and the Cambodian NA delegation on September 12visited the Military Telecommunications & Industry Corporation (Viettel).

Receiving the Cambodian guests, Deputy Minister ofNational Defence Sen. Lieu. Gen. Vu Hai San said Viettel is a leadingVietnamese firm in investing abroad, including Cambodia, expressing his hope thatCambodia will create favourable conditions for the firm in its operation,contributing to the socio-economic development of Cambodia and the development of the ties between the two countries.

According to Chairman and General Director of Viettel ColonelDao Duc Thang, the corporation has marked its presence in 10 countries in threecontinents, including Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Cameroon, Tanzania,Burundi, Peru, Haiti and Mozambique.

Viettel has been successful in producing equipment for telecommunicationsnetwork and high-tech equipment for the military. In Vietnam, it is apioneer in digital transformation, contributing to building a digitalsociety, he said.

Thang said that Cambodia is the first and profitablemarket for Viettel. Since it first provided mobile service in the market under thebrand of Metfone in 2009, Viettel has invested 840 million USD in the marketand become the largest telecommunication service supplier in the neighbouringcountry in terms of subscribers, revenue and network infrastructure.

Last year, despite COVID-19 impacts, Viettel clinched itsNo.1 position in Cambodia and enjoyed highest financial efficiency infive years.

Metfone has been one of the companies with the greatestcontributions in Cambodia by generating jobs for nearly 30,000 labourers andbecoming a model of the bilateral economic cooperation. It has also shown highcorporate social responsibility with many community support activities.

Hailing the strong performance of Viettel, the Cambodian NAleader said that through Metfone, Viettel has not only made great contributionsto  the socio-economic development and telecommunication infrastructure expansion aswell as digital transformation in Cambodia, but also created jobs and brought economicinterest to the country, contributing to improving the living conditions forlocal residents, thus becoming an example of success of the Vietnam-Cambodiapartnership.

He affirmed that he will convey requests and recommendationsof Viettel to the Cambodian Government, thus continuing to perfect policiesand laws and create optimal conditions for Viettel as well as investors fromother countries to increase investment in the country./.

Vietnam, Belgium boost parliamentary cooperation, deepen bilateral relations

Toi called on the Belgian Senate to continue supporting stronger Vietnam-EU relations, including the effective implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and promoting the European Commission's early removal of its "yellow card" warning against Vietnamese seafood exports, in recognition of Vietnam's efforts to improve its legal framework and promote sustainable fisheries management.

Nghia described the ongoing 500-day campaign as a sacred mission that embodies the Vietnamese tradition of remembering those who served and sacrificed for the nation. PM calls for building elite, professional international search and rescue force

During its mission from June 29 to July 7, the team worked around the clock under extremely hazardous conditions amid heavily damaged and contaminated disaster zones. Despite the challenges, rescue personnel recovered 57 victims' bodies and handed them over to local authorities and families. They also identified and reported several suspected locations where additional victims might be trapped.
