Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on November 7 called on Cambodian and Thai troops along the shared border to keep calm and maintain friendly relations regardless of the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s coming decision on the disputed land near Preah Vihear Temple.

Earlier, the country’s Defence Minister Tea Banh also asked both countries to respect the verdict and exert efforts to maintain peace and stability along their border.

However, local people living in the border areas still build bomb shelters as they are worried about unexpected developments after the verdict is announced.

The ICJ, which recognised Cambodia ’s sovereignty over the 11th century Preah Vihear temple in 1962, will announce its decision on the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand over a 4.6 square-km land near the temple on November 11.

In 2011, clashes of the two armies along the border claimed the lives of 18 peoples.-VNA
