Cambodia’s Independence Day celebrated in HCM City

The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA)'s chapter in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9 organised a gathering to celebrate the 71st anniversary of Cambodia's Independence Day (November 9, 1953 - 2024).

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA)'s chapter in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9 organised a gathering to celebrate the 71st anniversary of Cambodia's Independence Day (November 9, 1953 - 2024).

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nam, Commander of the HCM City High Command and President of the VCFA's HCM City chapter, said that the people of Ho Chi Minh City always attach importance to and make active contributions to the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Highlighting the close relations between the two countries, he stated that the leaders and citizens of both nations are working hard to further strengthen their bilateral ties for the benefit of their people as well as for regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

Cambodian Consul General in HCM City Chan Sorykan expressed his satisfaction with the robust growth of the Cambodia-Vietnam relationship, noting that two-way trade reached nearly 12 billion USD last year, making Vietnam Cambodia's third-largest trading partner globally and largest within ASEAN.

The two countries have seen progress in various areas such as diplomacy, politics, social affairs, and people-to-people exchange in the spirit of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability,” he said.

The diplomat affirmed that the Consulate General of Cambodia in HCM City will continue to foster the traditional relations and support the promotion of economic, trade, and investment cooperation for higher growth in 2024 and beyond./.
