Candles to be lit to remember war heroes

Candles will be lit at 3,000 cemeteries nationwide on July 26 in a collective moment to commemorate heroic soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to the national liberation, and to mark the 67th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

The candle-lit honour event hosted by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union turns to the seventh year this year.

In the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, nearly 1,000students will offer incenses and light candles at graves of 2,000 warheroes.

While in the central city of Hue, tribute will be paid to 2,100 fallen soldiers.

On the occasion, gifts will be presented to heroic Vietnamese mothersin Ha Giang. Some 500 heroic mothers and ex-revolutionaries will alsoenjoy free medical check-ups and treatment.

Nguyen Thai Binhand Vu A Dinh scholarships worth (1,600 USD) will go to 50 outstandingstudents of families that rendered services to the national liberation.

Similar commemorative activities will also be held in Thua Thien-Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.

Among cemeteries dedicated to war heroes nationwide, the Truong SonNational Martyrs Cemetery is the resting place of 10,263 fallen soldiershailing from across the country.

Meanwhile, over 10,000soldiers who laid down their lives during fierce battles in the Americanwar were laid to rest at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.-VNA

Search efforts continue for Vietnamese fallen soldiers in Cambodia

During the 2026-2027 dry season, Teams K70, K71, K72 and K73 will continue their search and repatriation mission, striving to fulfil the target based on 185 pieces of information concerning 761 graves. Each team is expected to collect at least 100 sets of remains during each deployment.
