With a bigger fleet, the group will expand its services to Europe and North America, transporting cargo such as steel, machinery and equipment, timber, materials for agricultural production, rice, cement and clinker.

During the opening ceremony, the group also signed with the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp (Vinashin) a contract to buy 16 vessels with capacity of 34,000 DWT to 56,000 DWT each.

Khanh said Trai Thien had proposed a 300 million USD project to develop a deep-water seaport on Con Dao Island. The proposal has received the go-ahead from the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial authority.

Khanh also announced that Trai Thien Shipping Transport Investment and Development Joint Stock Company had been listed on the US ’s Over the Counter Bulletin Board (OTCBB), adding that the listing on the US securities market would help the group mobilise capital and build a strong brand around the world.

Khanh said the group would soon open a representative office in California, which will help Trai Thien increase its volume of cargo transport from Vietnam to Europe and the Western coast of the US./.
