By Oct. 6 morning, torrential rain and flash floods in the central region had killed 28 people and left seven missing and nine injured, reported the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control.

Floods also submerged thousands hectares of houses, rice and industrial crops and damaged traffic, power and other infrastructural facilities..

Earlier, on Oct. 5, the Prime Minister sent an urgent dispatch to Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces to ask them to quickly send food and drinks to people in flooded areas and relief aid to fishing vessels in distress along with providing medical aid to injured people.

The same day, Hanoi decided to grant 5 billion VND and Ho Chi Minh City donated 3.5 billion VND to victims in flood-hit provinces.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society provided 820 million VND worth of aid in kind and cash to help residents in three heavily-affected provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh and Nghe An./.
