Vietnamese chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem retained his ranking, in the world No 49 position, in the latest rankings in September, released by the International Chess Federation.
However, Liem's Elo position was reduced because he only ranked 12th in the recent Asian event in the United Arab Emirates.
His Elo rating is now 2697, instead of 2699.
The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in two-player games.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son was ranked 132nd with an Elo rating of 2634, while Pham Le Thao Nguyen was ranked world No 153 with an Elo rating of 2319.-VNA
