Hanoi (VNA) – China has started construction work on a high-speed railway to reach Southeast Asian nations, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The 47.6-km railway between Dongxing and Fangchenggang, both in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will take three years and cost 6.48 billion yuan (980 million USD).
Trains on the Dongxing-Fangchenggang line will run up to 250 km per hour. Fangchenggang is already connected with regional capital Nanning by high-speed rail.
Fangchenggang is the only gate city of China connecting with Southeast Asian countries by both roads and waterway, which is important to promoting the strategic partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Dongxing township is located on the China-Vietnam border. Chinese Authorities said the line will eventually form part of a trans-Asia railway linking China with ASEAN member countries.-VNA
