Beijing (VNA)Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on February 27 that the second summit between US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un can be an "important step" towards advancing denuclearisation and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The Hanoi meeting can not only increase the hard-won warming up of the situation, but also take an important step towards advancing the denuclearisation of the peninsula and establishing a peace mechanism, Wang said after talks with his Russian and Indian counterparts in the eastern Chinese city of Wuzhen.

He said he hopes the summit can reach a new progress towards denuclearisation and long-term peace on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the announcement of the White House, Trump and Kim were scheduled to have a 20-minute one-on-one meeting at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel at 6:30 pm on February 27 before they come to a social dinner which is expected to conclude at 8:35pm.

The two leaders plan to have a series of official meetings on February 28.-VNA
