Citizens’ awareness and responsibility, prerequisite to control COVID-19

In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, besides strictly implementing solutions, citizens’ awareness and responsibility are crucial in order to put the pandemic under control.

Hanoi (VNA) – In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, besides strictly implementing solutions, citizens’ awareness and responsibility are crucial in order to put the pandemic under control.

So far, the world has recorded 110,911,886 infected cases and 2,454,251 deaths in 221 countries and territories.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that 13 provinces and cities nationwide have reported COVID-19 infected cases. However, the situation in 12 provinces and cities has been gradually controlled (except for Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province).

Amidst the complicated development of the pandemic, with drastic intervention of the whole political system, the epidemic situation across the country has been well controlled. However, in the fight against COVID-19, along with strictly implementing drastic solutions, citizens’ awareness and responsibility are very important.

Threat from unconsciousness

In the current COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control works, people's awareness is considered as “the highest dose" to quickly repulse the disease.

In fact, there are many people who have failed to follow COVID-19 prevention and control measures by declaring dishonest health information, escaping from quarantine units, uploading inaccurate information on social networks, causing pressure on disease prevention and control works authorized units are implemented.

Over the past days, some individuals who do not make health declaration cause negative impacts on pandemic prevention and control, even spreading the virus widely, such as Patient 17 in Hanoi.

Dishonest information declaration has caused difficulties for local authorities and seriously affected the entire disease prevention and control works. Therefore, more than ever, people need to be honest, raise their vigilance and focus on epidemic prevention. On the other hand, authorities must also strictly handle fraud cases.

Every citizen must be a “soldier”

The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has determined that people need to raise their awareness and responsibilities to join hands with the Government, the State, relevant authorities in the fight against the pandemic and response to the call of the Government and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc: “Every citizen is a soldier in the fight against the pandemic.”

Through many forms of educational works and concern for health, most people have gradually raised their awareness and followed preventive measures.

People have strictly followed recommendations of the health sector such as: actively making accurate medical declarations, wearing masks when going out, informing any health abnormalities during home isolation.

Accordingly, all cases returning from epidemic affected areas will be supervised by local authorities and medical staff to make medical declarations; they will also be classified and quarantined for COVID-19 disease prevention.

In particular, there are people who have proactively contacted local authorities or visited health units to make their medical declarations.

Over a year fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has shown that with drastic intervention of the whole political system, consensus and response of the whole people, the it has put COVID-19 under well control for many times.

However, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long emphasised: “We cannot end the epidemic in the first 6 months of the year and in 2021. In the first quarter, localities must consider disease prevention and control works as a top priority.
