CanTho (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Developmentteamed up with the World Bank (WB) to start a project on climate changeadaptation in the Mekong Delta worth more than 8.5 trillion VND (384.9 millionUSD).
Theproject aims to strengthen planning and improve the ability to withstandclimate change for land and water resource management in the Mekong Delta.
Thesum consists of 6.9 trillion VND (310 million USD) in loans from the WB, 1.6trillion VND (72.5 million USD) of reciprocal capital and the remainder fromcapital mobilisation.
Theproject will be launched in nine Mekong Delta provinces from 2016 to 2020.
Vietnamis one of the five countries most vulnerable to climate change while the MekongDelta region, Vietnam’s rice granary, is among the three large deltas in theworld worst hit by that weather phenomenon.-VNA
