Live and Learn representative Nguyen Quang Thanh quoted figures in the Climate Vulnerability Initiative’s report released in September last year in New York, which forecast that climate change can cause losses equivalent to 5 percent of GDP in Vietnam each year, amounting to 15 billion USD and even more if the country fails to take effective solutions.
In addition, the rising sea level will also deprive Vietnam of an estimated 4 billion USD annually, he said.
The programme of supervising vulnerability to climate change is a global-scaled research focusing on current and future impacts of climate change on socio-economy.
On the occasion, Prof. Le Vu Anh, head of the Hanoi School of Public Health and President of the Public Health Association of Vietnam, also shared information on impacts of climate change on the public health.
The working group for climate change presented updated results of research on the current situation of climate change in Vietnam and national-level and community efforts in the field.
