Hanoi (VNA) - Another cold spell is forecast to hit northern provinces from December 27 night, while frost and snow will fall in the northern mountainous region, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
The centre said that cold air from mainland China was moving close to the northern border of Vietnam. On December 27 night, the cold weather was forecast to hit northeastern provinces while the north and central provinces are forecast to suffer cold spell from December 28.
The temperature is expected to drop slightly to 17-20 degrees Celsius then fall dramatically to as low as 14 degrees Celsius on December 28 in lowland areas. The temperature in mountainous provinces may fall to 11 degrees Celsius.
The capital city of Hanoi is expected to suffer lows of 10-13 degrees Celsius.
The centre also said due to the cold spell, showers were forecast to hit the north and the north-central region from December 29. At the same time, torrential rain with thunderstorms would hit north central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh.
Snow and frost is likely to fall in northern mountainous provinces from December 28-31.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell would last for a week.-VNA
