The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) is toprioritise its International Data Centre (IDC) human resource buildingprogramme with Vietnam, and will provide necessary technical assistanceto help the country improve personnel capacity for national constructionand development.
Executive Secretary of thePreparatory Commission for the CTBTO, Tibor Toth, made the remarks at areception for Vietnamese Ambassador to the CTBTO Nguyen Thiep, whopresented his credentials to the Executive Secretary in Vienna,Austria on November 29.
Toth highly valuedVietnam’s participation and approval of the Comprehensive Nuclear TestBan Treaty (CTBT), saying that it plays an important role in antinuclear proliferation and preventing arms race in Asia and the worldas well.
Ambassador Thiep affirmed Vietnam’s policy of peace and comprehensive disarmament including nuclear weapons.
Vietnam hopes to receive support from the internationalcommunity, including the CTBTO, to develop nuclear power applicationsfor peace and development, he added.
Thiep was alsoreceived by Lassina Zerbo, who was elected Executive Secretary of thePreparatory Commission in September and will take up his position inJune next year.
The Vietnamese diplomat congratulated Zerbo and expressed his hope to closely cooperate with him during his working term.-VNA
