Cuba welcomes and stands ready to support Vietnamese businesses and investors so as to multiply successful projects of the two countries, President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce Orlando Hernandez has said.

Havana (VNA) – Cuba welcomes and stands ready tosupport Vietnamese businesses and investors so as to multiply successfulprojects of the two countries, President of the Cuban Chamber of CommerceOrlando Hernandez has said.

He made the remark at a Cuba-Vietnam businessforum in Havana on May 15 that attracted more than 100 representatives of bothcountries’ enterprises.

The official stressed that the two sides boasthuge potential for enhancing economic and trade relations, especially inhealthcare, biotechnology, agriculture, tourism, informatics andcommunications.

Cuba is facing difficulties, including thoserelevant to external financial resources and payment in foreign currencies.Therefore, its government is working to improve the efficiency of the use ofexisting resources, promote export and increase attracting foreign investment, hesaid.

For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to CubaNguyen Trung Thanh said he believes with the countries’ friendship, politicalresolve, signed agreements and support mechanisms being perfected, the currentuptrend in the bilateral trade will be maintained to reach the target of 500million USD before 2022.

He also noted difficulties as well as successstories in bilateral economic ties, reiterating that the Vietnamese peoplealways by the side of the Cuban people and consider each success of theCaribbean nation as their own.

At the forum, Vice Chairman of the VietnamChamber of Commerce and Industry Vo Tan Thanh presented a number of economicpolicies of Vietnam and some of the country’s achievements over the 30 years ofreforms.

Following the event, Vietnamese and Cubanbusinesses met with each other to discuss cooperation in such fields as oil andgas, legal services, printing and packaging, environmental services,construction and real estate, agriculture and food processing, fertilizer andpharmaceutical products.-VNA
