– Deputy Minister of DefenceSen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh is leading a delegation from the ministry on anofficial visit to Cuba from May 4-8.

On May 6, the Vietnamese delegation had a defencepolicy dialogue with the Ministry of the Revolutionary ArmedForces of Cuba.

Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces Sen. Lt.Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias said Cuba pursues a consistent policy of attachinggreat importance to sound friendly relations with Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Vinh affirmed that Vietnamalways wants to further enhance the faithful relations between the twocountries’ armies in particular and the two Parties, States and peoples ingeneral.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at theoutcomes of the bilateral defence partnership over the past time and agreed toboost the bilateral cooperation in this field in a more effective manner so asto strengthen each country’s defence power for the protection of theirrespective sovereignty, territorial integrity, and revolutionary achievements. 

They will tighten coordination in the fieldsthat had been agreed in the bilateral defence cooperation plan.

The Cuban side hoped to boost cooperation withVietnam in food security, defence industry, protection of the socialistideological foundation on cyberspace, and neutralization of hostile forces’sabotage attemps in the new situation.

The two sides agreed that in 2020, Vietnam andCuba will organise practical activities to celebrate the 60th foundinganniversary of bilateral defence partnership.

The two sides also took the occasion to comparednotes on regional and international issues of mutual concerns.

On the occasion, the two ministries signedminutes on implementing a dossier on the 60-year history of Vietnam-Cuba60-year defence partnership.

Under the document, they will work together toresearch, compile and publish a set of books on Vietnam-Cuba 60-year defencepartnership (1960-2020) and make a documentary film about the bilateral defencerelations.

The idea on the dossier was agreed by leadersof the two defence ministries during the visit to Cuba in March 2018 by adelegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary NguyenPhu Trong.-VNA
