Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has pledged continued support for Vietnam’s customs modernisation process to come up to global standards.

When meeting with leaders of Vietnam’s General Department of Customs (GDC) on July 29, Kunio Mikuriya praised the increasing role Vietnam’s Customs Department plays at international forums.

Head of the GDC Nguyen Ngoc Tuc said as Vietnam’s customs are attempting to raise their level of automation to that of advanced regional countries between 2011 and 2020, the sector will need further assistance from the WCO.

During his visit to Vietnam, the WCO Secretary General will meet with the Finance Ministry to discuss future operations to step up the management of border security.

WCO is the only inter-governmental organisation that exclusively focuses on customs related issues. It also maintains the international system for classifying goods and administers the technical side of the WTOs agreements on customs valuations and the rules on country of origin./.
