Lam Dong (VNA) – The 7th Da Lat Flowers Festival opened at Lam Vien Square in Da Lat city, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on December 23 under the theme of “Da Lat Flowers - A Miracle from the Good Earth”.
The event was attended by Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, many former state leaders, representatives from foreign embassies in Vietnam and some 15,000 tourists and local people.
In her remarks, the Vietnamese top legislator stressed that after six years of organisation, the Da Lat Flowers Festival has become an outstanding cultural-economic-sport event, which has huge impacts on the local development of flower and farm produce production and export activities.
She expressed her hope that Party committees and authorities at all levels as well as local people will further efforts to fully tape local strengths and potential, helping build a more beautiful flowers festival city which will be an ideal destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.
The opening ceremony was then enlightened by an excellent art performance delivered by 500 artists.
During the five-day festival, Da Lat’s streets, parks and tourism spots like Xuan Huong Lake park, Ong Dao bridge, Le Dai Hanh Street and Tran Hung Dao park are donned with a wide range of fresh and colourful flowers grown in the locality.
A fashion week of silk and “ao dai” (traditional Vietnamese dress) and folk performances by artists from the Republic of Korea are included in the festival as well.
In addition, more than 5,000 art works of flowers, bonsai and plant are being displayed at an international bonsai and flower exhibition.
A series of workshops are also scheduled within the framework of the festival to promote investment in Lam Dong, discuss Da Lat’s development planning and develop local tea and silk products.-VNA
