Da Nang (VNA) – The People’s Committee of central Da Nang city has asked Dana-Italy and Dana-Australia steel factories to immediately halt production activities directly causing environmental pollution.

The request was made on March 1 following the February 28 dialogue between municipal leaders and local residents in Hoa Lien commune, Hoa Vang district, where the two factories are reportedly causing environmental pollution.

The city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment was assigned to instruct the Environmental Protection Agency to coordinate with the Hoa Vang district People’s Committee to supervise the factories’ observance of the request.

The factories are permitted to continue other transport, import-export and administration-related activities but the time, types of vehicle and number of people involved in these activities must be reported to the People’s Committee of Hoa Lien commune.

The municipal People’s Committee Office was asked to sum up opinions of participants at the February 28 dialogue and promptly complete a plan to remove the factories, which should be submitted to the municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board for approval before March 2, 2018.

The Chairman of the Hoa Vang district People’s Committee will instruct relevant agencies and units, and the Hoa Lien commune People’s Committee to intensify the communications work to help local people understand the city’s policies and abide by law.

Competent forces were requested to keep a close watch on the situation to swiftly detect and strictly handle law violations, and prevent actions affecting political security and social order and safety in the locality.

The Chairman of the Hoa Lien commune People’s Committee was tasked with popularising the conclusion among local people and businesses.-VNA
