The central city of Da Nang has started a project to recycle organic waste into environmentally friendly liquid fertilizer with funding provided by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
The project, a cooperation deal between the city and Chikujo town in Japan, will build a factory in Cam Le district to produce the fertilizer.
"In Chikujo town, a liquid fertiliser plant has been operating since 1994. We overcame a lot of difficulties in cooperation with Kyushu University, Saga University and Environmental Business Solution Inc before succeeding in managing it," the mayor of Chikujyo town, Hisami Arakawa, said at a seminar on how to carry out the project on May 20.
The mayor also said the Chikujo Model had helped farmers in the town cut their fertiliser costs by 90 percent.
Vice chairman of Da Nang city's People's Committee, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, said nearly 90 tonnes of household and office waste are discharged in the city daily.
He said the project would help build the city become ‘green' by 2020.-VNA
