Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Do Ba Ty had bilateral meetings with defence leaders of Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Brunei on the margin of the 12th ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM-12) in Kuala Lumpur on February 10.
At a meeting with Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Lao Armed Forces, Major General Kham Lieng, Senior Lieutenant General Ty said he believes that the Vietnam-Laos special ties will be further promoted with the growing partnership between the two armies.
He suggested that the border guard forces of both sides enhance their coordination by exchanging information and increasing joint patrol and law enforcement activities for a shared border of peace and friendship.
Kham Lieng said he is delighted at the bilateral defence cooperation in recent years and vowed to do his utmost to continue enhancing the Laos-Vietnam relations.
Meeting with Cambodian Royal Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Pol Saroeun, Ty affirmed that the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, especially between the two armies, are significant to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.
He spoke highly of fruitful cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries in promoting peace and friendship along the common border.
Pol Saroeun stated that his country attaches much importance to developing its ties with Vietnam for mutual benefit as well as regional peace and stability.
During a meeting with Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Ty lauded Brunei’s positive contributions to defence events hosted by Vietnam in 2014, including ASEAN Defence Chiefs’ Meeting.
He suggested Brunei increase scholarships for Vietnamese officers.
Speaking highly of the sound defence affiliation between the two countries, Tawih bin Abdullah said the two sides should use the direct communication line between the two naval forces in a more effective manner.
Meeting Thai Chief of the Defence Forces, General Worapong Sanganetra, Ty said bilateral defence cooperation, especially in the navy, has made forward progress, and should be further promoted through search and rescue activity, joint patrol, personnel training, and delegation exchange.
General Worapong Sanganetra pledged that he will work harder for stronger friendship and partnership between the two armies, especially in personnel training.-VNA
