Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Van Duoc on July 23 received Russian cosmonaut Victor Gorbatko on his visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 30 th anniversary of the successful Vietnam-Russia friendship space-flight mission.
Sen. Lieut. General Duoc described the July 23-31, 1980 space-flight mission by cosmonauts Pham Tuan and Victor Gorbatko as an historical event to the Vietnamese people and serving as a bright symbol for the 60 years of traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia .
He affirmed the fact that with the former Soviet Union’s assistance, Vietnam became the first Asian country to conquer space.
The Russian cosmonaut thanked the defence official for his reception and showed his joy to see the immense achievements Vietnam has recorded in its national construction toward industrialisation and modernisation./.
