Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime MinisterTruong Hoa Binh, Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, hasdirected the settlement of a deadly traffic accident which happened in theMekong Delta province of Long An on January 2.
He assigned Vice Chairman of the committee Khuat Viet Hung to come to theaccident site and work with the provincial People’s Committee to address theconsequences.
He also called for support for the families ofthe dead and injured victims.
According to a report by the province’s traffic safety board,a container truck hit 21 motorbikes waiting at a red light at Nhut Chanhjunction in Ben Luc district, killing three people on the spot and injuring 17others. One died en route to the hospital.
After the accident, the driver, Pham Thanh Hieu, left the scene. He later turnedhimself in at Ben Luc district’s police station that evening.
The Long An General Hospital on January 3 revealed that Hieu tested positivefor heroin.-VNA
