Quang Tri: Housing campaign brings hope for landslide-affected communities

The project was inaugurated on December 31, 2025. Over 18 days of construction, teams moved more than 30,000 cu.m of soil, sand, stone, and gravel; installed 200 anti-landslide gabions; built 130 m of drainage channels; planted 2,000 sq.m slope grass; and assisted residents with repairs, moving belongings, and clearing their homes to quickly restore livelihoods.

Quang Tri (VNA) - Homes reinforced and landslide-resistant facilities constructed through the Quang Trung campaign have become both a solid lifeline and a source of renewed hope for people in the disaster-hit commune of Khe Sanh in Quang Tri province, supporting their efforts to rebuild and stabilise daily life.

Amid the upbeat atmosphere of the early days of the New Year, the joy of Nguyen Thi Thuong’s family in Khe Sanh has been doubled as their new home—built with support from the Quang Trung campaign—nears completion. More than a refuge from wind and rain, the sturdy single-storey house offers a safe haven and fulfils the family’s dream of stable housing following months of anxiety caused by natural disasters.

In recent days, at the construction site, officers and soldiers have worked tirelessly from early morning until late at night, pressing ahead with round-the-clock shifts through holidays, racing against time to complete disaster-resilient home for the local resident.

After 22 days of construction, the project is now about 90% complete. Thuong’s family is expected to move into their new home on January 10.

Thai Thi Nga, Chairwoman of Khe Sanh commune, said the Quang Trung campaign is a crucial and urgent effort to support disaster-hit households. Following the directives of the Government and the provincial People’s Committee, the locality launched a transparent plan and mobilised forces to help residents rebuild homes and quickly stabilise their lives.

Following the Prime Minister’s directive, Quang Tri has vigorously implemented the campaign to swiftly address the aftermath of natural disasters, mobilising the entire political system with the aim of quickly stabilising lives, ensuring safety, and restoring confidence and well-being for affected residents.

The completed emergency landslide-prevention project in Hung Vuong street, Khe Sanh commune, has transformed the once-devastated area, bringing relief and renewed confidence for residents to return and settle.

Previously, in mid-November 2025, heavy rains triggered a severe landslide behind the residential area in Hung Vuong street, damaging two houses and threatening 10 more. Authorities evacuated residents, declared an emergency, and launched an 18 billion-VND landslide-prevention project led by the provincial Department of Construction and executed by Brigade 384 and units of the Military Region 4.

Nguyen Dang Quang, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, emphasised that the project’s inauguration demonstrates the pivotal role of the Vietnam People’s Army in preventing and addressing natural disasters; and also reflects the close coordination and responsibility of the military, local authorities, and residents in implementing the campaign, bringing safety and well-being to the community.

Launched on December 1, 2025 under Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s directive, the Quang Trung campaign aims to quickly rebuild and repair storm- and flood-damaged homes in central localities —including Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Lam Dong—ensuring safe housing for affected families before the Lunar New Year./.

Quang Tri tightens control of vessels to prevent IUU fishing

Amid rising demand for offshore fishing in the early days of the new year, local authorities in the central coastal province of Quang Tri have stepped up controls on vessels entering and leaving ports to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

By early 2026, Quang Ninh had established a transparent fisheries data ecosystem. All 4,116 fishing vessels of six metres or longer operating in the province have been registered and fully updated on the national system VNfishbase. Notably, information of all local vessel owners has been verified and synchronised with the national VNeID system, enabling faster and more accurate traceability and identification of fishermen.
