The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum brings economic and political benefits to Vietnam, help the country raise position and is an important channel to boost bilateral relations, said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

Deputy PM Khiem made the remark on Nov. 15 following the freshly-ended 18 th APEC Summit in Japan .

He said APEC’s cooperation focuses, including the strategies for new growth, structure reform, business facilitation, and raising administrative capacity, are basically similar to Vietnam ’s needs and orientation for development. That’s why Vietnam should take advantage of the cooperation to serve its own socio-economic development strategy in the coming time.

However, Deputy PM said, APEC regional linkages also pose new challenges to Vietnam .

In the next 5-10 year, Vietnam must complete all its commitments under various cooperation frameworks, especially the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, Bogor Goals on free trade and investment by 2020 and the ASEAN FTA agreement with China and other partners by 2015.

Implementing those commitments requires high determination, active participation and close coordination of ministries, sectors, enterprises and people, Deputy PM Khiem said./.
