Hanoi (VNA) –Deputy Prime Ministers Truong Hoa Binh and Vu Duc Dam congratulated doctors andmedical workers nationwide on the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day (February 27) whilevisiting some medical organisations in Hanoi on February 23.

The National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology helda celebration for the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day which was attended by Deputy PMTruong Hoa Binh and Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien.
 
Trinh Dinh Hai, Director of the NationalHospital of Odonto-Stomatology, said the hospital has continually made effortsand attained a number of achievements over the past years. It has worked toimprove examination and treatment quality and apply many advanced techniquescomparable to those in developed countries.

It provides treatment for more than 100,000patients every year while giving free surgeries to tens of thousands ofchildren with cleft lip and cleft palate and low-income patients, he said.

Hai added that the hospital has effectivelyimplemented the school oral health programme and the dental caries preventionprogramme in the community. Its doctors have also regularly come to differentlocalities to support local dental care networks and help people access dentalcare services.

At the ceremony, Deputy PM Binh presented asecond-class Labour Order to Director Trinh Dinh Hai and a third-class LabourOrder to former Director Vu Dinh Minh. He also handed over the MeritoriousDoctor title to nine doctors, and certificates of merit to two other doctors ofthe hospital.

Also on February 23, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam held aworking session with the Vietnam Medical Association (VMA), which gathers 48specialised organisations and 54 provincial-level associations with hundreds ofthousands of members, including many leading experts and doctors.

Deputy PM Dam recognised the VMA’s goodcoordination with the health ministry in public health care, policy making, andinternational cooperation. He asked the VMA to improve its role in assessinghospital quality, ensuring manpower for the medical sector, and cooperatingwith the Government to strongly reform hospital management mechanisms.

Meeting with representatives of the Vietnam RedCross Society (VRC) Central Committee, Dam highly valued the VRC’saccomplishments, especially in working with the health ministry in publichealth care and providing aid for disadvantaged people.

The hospital must successfully fulfil the tasks of admission, emergency care, and treatment, he stressed, calling for close integration of treatment and scientific research, as well as training and scientific research. He advocated for preferential mechanisms and policies to attract medical professionals to engage in scientific research and higher education.

Malaria cases in Vietnam down 20% in 2024

According to Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh, Director of the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology, and Entomology, from 2014 to 2024, the number of malaria cases and deaths has gradually declined year on year, with a decrease of 97.76% from 15,752 cases to 353 cases per year.
