Heavy downpours have triggered landslides and disrupted transport in mountainous Bac Tra My district, the central province of Quang Ngai over the past two days, taking a toll on its infrastructure and local houses.

Together with rising river levels, the floods have also left areas isolated.

Chief of the Office of the district People’s Committee Le Anh Tuan said it is difficult to get food supplies to the hands of local ethnic victims as the weather has hampered travelling.

On November 28, the district authorities inspected the damages so as to come up with timely support, especially in preventing hunger and possible outbreaks of diseases in the wake of the torrential rains.

No casualties due to the landsides have been recorded so far.

Several successive typhoons and subsequent floods inundated more than 77,000 houses, 58 schools, 150 hectares of rice and over 1,000 hectares of crops in the province.-VNA
