A centre for verifying educational quality was set up by the Vietnam National University (VNU) in Ho Chi Minh City on November 13.
The facility is to make assessment and endorsement of education institutes and programmes meeting quality standards, and offer suggestions on improving the post-verification quality.
The Ministry of Education and Training has granted certificates to 55 verifiers trained at home and abroad, including 12 from the city-based VNU, said Nguyen Hoi Nghia, deputy director of the university.
Pham Xuan Thanh, deputy head of the ministry’s General Department for Educational Testing and Accreditation, praised the university’s efforts to build a competent verifying staff that contributes to the fulfilment of the nationwide educational quality assessments.
He cited the fact that more than 70 percent of tertiary and intermediate institutes have special groups and annual plans on ensuring educational quality. Up to 92 percent of universities and colleges completed self-assessment reports and readied to register quality standards.
A similar centre is operating at the Hanoi-based Vietnam National University .
From 2015 and onward, the Ministry of Education and Training will allow organisations and individuals to establish independent assessment groups in addition to perfecting legal documents on the field.-VNA
