Efforts to improve transport infrastructure in Central Highlands

Further upgrades and construction in transport infrastructure will be carried out in the Central Highlands region from 2016-2020, according to the Central Highlands region’s Steering Committee.

Further upgrades and construction in transport infrastructure will becarried out in the Central Highlands region from 2016-2020, according tothe Central Highlands region’s Steering Committee.

The committee said around 1,272 kilometres will be upgraded or newlybuilt during the period to facilitate mobility between provinces in theregion and connections with the central coastal region as well ascontribute to social-economic development.

Inrecent years, transport infrastructure in the Central Highlands hasmarkedly improved with thousands of kilometres of roads already open totraffic.

Since the beginning of this year, morethan 600 kilometres of roads have been completed in the region andanother 190 kilometres will be put into use by the end of the year.

From 2011-2015, 48.73 trillion VND (2.23 billion USD) was invested inthe region, 30 trillion VND (1.37 billion USD) of which was sourcedfrom the Government and the remaining from localities.

Besides upgrades to airports in the region, 3,629 kilometres ofdistrict roads and 4,224 kilometres of commune roads have beenconcreted.-VNA
