Many securities companies performed weakly in the first half of theyear, pulled down by lower brokerage and margin lending servicerevenues.

According to data from HCM City and Hanoi stockexchanges, more than 30 brokerage companies have submitted theirfinancial reports for the second quarter and first half. Most are smallfirms with charter capital of below 300 billion VND (13.8 million USD).

Onlyseven brokers posted higher second-quarter revenue growth this yearthan last year: Da Nang Securities, Tam Nhin (Horizon) Securities, VietThanh Securities, Mirae Asset Securities Vietnam, Thanh Cong Securities,Euro Capital Securities and Quoc Gia Securities.

Six of thesefirms earned higher revenue thanks to increases in brokerage and marginlending activities. Horizon Securities Corp earned the highest. Itsbrokerage fees soared from 1 million VND (46 USD) in the first quarterof 2014 to 6.6 billion VND (303,000 USD) in the second quarter of theyear.

Only Mirae Asset Securities earned major revenue fromself-investment activities. The company's brokerage fees dropped 12percent on the year, but its investment strategy earned the company 2.9billion VND in the second quarter in 2015, accounting for nearly 35percent of its total revenue.

However, most of other firms sawtheir revenue decline. Overall, the total revenue of more than 30companies declined more than 45 percent on average.

Toan CauSecurities Co was the biggest loser as its revenue reached just 200million VND (9,200 USD) in the last three months to June, down 98.5percent year-on-year. Phu Gia Securities Co closely followed with adecrease of 91 percent and VSM Securities with a drop of 78 percent.

InvestmentVietnam Securities Co recorded the smallest decrease in revenue of just2.1 percent. Though its brokerage fees and other sources of revenueincreased during the period but strong declines in the consultancy andself investment activities depreciated its overall performance.
