Illustrative image (Photo: Internet) Hanoi (VNA) - The Hanoi University of Scienceand Technology has become the first Vietnamese university to be listed among theworld’s 200 “golden age” best, as ranked by Times Higher Education (THE), a leadingBritish publication on news and issues relating to higher education.
This year’s “golden age” rankings feature 308 universities,up from 271 last year. Those ranked must have been established between 1945 and1967.
The Hanoi University of Science and Technology secureda place in the 151-200 range.
THE used 13 performance indicators to assess almost1,400 institutions worldwide to “provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons,trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry, and governments.”
Indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching(the learning environment), research (volume, income, and reputation), citations(research influence), international outlook (staff, students, and research), andindustry income (knowledge transfer).
The Hanoi University of Science and Technology isVietnam’s oldest and largest technical institute, established in 1956.
Describing itself as “a multidisciplinary researchuniversity in which scientific research is a main force,” it declares a “commitmentto human development, high-quality workforce training, scientific research, technologicalinnovation, and knowledge transfer that serve the country and global society.”
Last year, THE put the Hanoi University of Scienceand Technology in its World University Rankings, which lists the 1,000 best universitiesin the world, and among its top 400 universities in engineering and technology.
Earlier,two Vietnamese universities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi and VietnamNational University, Ho Chi Minh City were present in the QS Top 50 Under 502021 rankings by the UK educational organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The list, announcedon June 24, ranks the world’s best universities which founded within the past50 years./.
