A special forum on Vietnam-Japan educational cooperation has been held in Tokyo, Japan on the occasion of the 40 th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said that the Vietnamese Government has decided to include Japanese language in its secondary education programme and will work with Japan to upgrade some universities in Vietnam and establish a Japanese university in the country to equip people with first-rate skills.
The numbers of Vietnamese students, post-graduates and apprentices in Japan have been increasing, he said, adding that Vietnam has implemented a cooperation model between its educational sector and foreign countries, including Japan to ensure high-quality human resources for economic development.
Vietnam-Japan cooperation in education and training has great potential and will boost the two countries’ strategic partnership, Nhan affirmed.
On behalf of the Japanese Government, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Teru Fukui presented the country’s educational strategy, including a policy to attract foreign students.
Japan has actively promoted educational cooperation with Vietnam through Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) projects and between the two countries’ universities.
The two governments have agreed to train high-tech specialists and strengthen their ties in cultural and people-to-people exchanges, he added.
At the forum, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy said cooperation with Japan in education, training and human resources development is of high priority.
Quy expressed his hope that the two sides will boost cooperation in ongoing projects, adding that the Vietnamese Government and ministry will do their utmost to effectively carry out educational cooperation agreements between the two countries.
Representatives from Vietnamese and Japanese ministries and universities also presented measures to foster bilateral ties in education, training, science, technology and human resources development.-VNA
