Friendship association works to foster Vietnam-China ties

Representatives from the Vietnam-China Friendship Association chapters in 11 northern midland, mountainous and border cities and provinces gathered in Lao Cai province on October 19 to discuss activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations in 2020.

Lao Cai (VNA) – Representatives from theVietnam-China Friendship Association chapters in 11 northern midland,mountainous and border cities and provinces gathered in Lao Cai province onOctober 19 to discuss activities to celebrate the 70th anniversaryof Vietnam-China diplomatic relations in 2020.

Participants noted that over the years, the association hasimplemented many activities on major occasions of both countries, whileexchanging delegations and coordinating to hold many bilateral forums andconferences. The association also organizes exchanges between Vietnamese andChinese youth and children, and raises funds for charity activities.

The association has worked with other diplomatic channels todefend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as lobby theChinese political circle in settling existing problems in the relationshipbetween the two countries.

Vice President of the association Nguyen Van Tho, who isalso former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador to China,said that the associations has closely followed the policies of the Partyduring its operations and promoted solidarity in completing its tasks.

He said that in the future, the association chapters inlocalities must call for the involvement of people from all walks of life inpeople-to-people exchange activities with China, while encouraging andsupporting organizations, agencies and businesses of Vietnam and China tocooperate in economy, culture and science-technology and engage in charityactivities.

In 2020 when Vietnam and China celebrates the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, the association should strengthencommunication campaigns on the Vietnam-China traditional friendship andorganize exchange activities with Chinese students and enterprises in thelocalities, especially in border areas.

Ahn Byung Chan, a former reporter for the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Hankook Ilbo newspaper was the last Korean journalist to leave Sai Gon (now Ho Chi Minh City) on the early morning of April 30, 1975 on the flight that he believed the last one from the US Embassy's building rooftop on April 30.
