Fund for the poor raises 13.9 trillion VND from 2017-2019

The National Fund for the Poor and Social Welfare raised over 13.9 trillion VND (600.7 million USD) during 2017-2019, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Truong Thi Ngoc Anh told a teleconference in Hanoi on December 23.

Hanoi (VNA) – TheNational Fund for the Poor and Social Welfare raised over 13.9 trillion VND (600.7million USD) during 2017-2019, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front(VFF) Central Committee Truong Thi Ngoc Anh told a teleconference in Hanoi onDecember 23.

Anh said over 2 trillion VND werespent on social welfare programmes. Over 110,000 houses and thousands ofwelfare works were built and repaired in localities, millions of poor patientsreceived health check-ups and treatment while thousands of poor households weregiven access to loans for production.

She added that the fund’scampaign board will continue holding an annual television programme “The wholenation joins hand for the poor” on October 17 to launch the Month for the Poorfrom October 17 – November 18.

The VFF Central Committee and theboard will present 3,500 gifts to poor households and 20 gifts to poorcommunities with a total value of over 4.4 billion VND from December 2019 toJanuary 20, 2020.

President of the VFF CentralCommittee Tran Thanh Man urged VFF chapters to call on organisations andenterprises to continue supporting the fund, thus creating a driving force forthe poor to sustainably escape poverty.

They were required to effectivelyuse the fund in line with State regulations, ensuring fairness andobjectiveness./.

Quang Ngai to remove hundreds of unregistered fishing vessels

To date, Quang Ngai has 5,194 registered fishing vessels, with data regularly updated in the National Fisheries Database (VNFishbase). The provincial licensing rate for fishing activities has reached 81.94%, while 99% of local vessels required to install vessel monitoring systems (VMS) have complied.

A total of 351 communes free of temporary, dilapidated houses

From February 21-28, 7,540 temporary and dilapidated houses were renovated or replaced nationwide, bringing the total number of facilities improved under humanitarian policy to 115,481. Of these, 62,737 houses were inaugurated, while construction began on another 52,744.
